Located in Main Ave Cubao Quezon City, Tago Jazz Cafe is a sweet haven for Jazz lovers and people who just want to hear something else other than the mainstreamed live band performances of typical bars in the metro.
I’ve been wanting to come here for a while to witness the Jazz community in the Philippines and also because there’s just nothing much to do after 10pm. It was actually not that difficult to locate the venue. You can easily search in Google for Tago Jazz Cafe and it’ll be right there on the map with good reviews from its patrons.
It’s a cool little house in a residential area that was renovated into a bar. It’s got that hipster feel to it but definitely not overpowering the jazzy ambiance you’d expect. It’s all about Jazz music in here. They don’t pretend by overdecorating their interiors with designs on the wall of jazz artists or jazz references.
It’s best to come here with a reservation so you can get a good table seating without any obstructions from your view of the stage. But if your’e like me who likes to show up impromptu, you can walk in without a reservation but you won’t be getting the best seats in the house. As a matter of fact, you might get asked to go further and further into the back corners of the venue or even switch seats when customers starts coming in and filling up the place. Some people might not like that but it’s no problem for me especially since the place is understandably popular and one of a kind in Cubao, Quezon City. So a tip for newcomers is be patient and good vibes only.
The entrance fee averages with P200. It can be pricier at times depending on the performers. They’ve also got reasonable prices on their food and drinks.
I got a beer for P70 and a plate of french fries topped with cheese and beef bits for P200. So I spent a little less than P500 for myself. Good deal for a Saturday night.
The musicians were terrific. I got to see The Pete Canzon Group perform and I’m looking forward to see other Filipino jazz artists.
