CAFE BY THE RUINS: A Cozy Café in Baguio

Cafe by the Ruins in Baguio City

If you’re looking for a cozy spot in Baguio where you can take a sip of Tsokolate, then Café by the Ruins is ideal for that experience. This place is well-known by both locals and tourists and offers natural and local ingredients of the region. They also offer vegetarian options in their menu.

Located along Shuntug Road, it might be a bit easy mistake the venue as a private property and not a cafe because of its high bamboo walls. But when you see their signage and open gate, it’s obvious that they’re open for business.

Inside is a cozy ambiance where kind staffs will greet you with smiles and hospitality. It looks like they also use a natural theme as part of their aesthetics. Small gardens, natural lighting, and open-air breeze are utilized to give a feeling of being close to nature. Of course, harmony with nature is a Baguio thing.

Inside is a chic and simple modernistic approach to its design and architecture with their delicacies on display. At times, you can smell the sweet scent of their backed breads like their Ensaymadas and Pandesals. These scents and details adds to the homey Filipino appeal of the cafe.

I made a mistake by ordering their Pasta ala Carbonara but not because it’s bad, it’s actually good. They’ve put a generous amount of bacon on it which I really loved. My mistake was that I didn’t order Filipino food which this place is popular for having.

Unfortunately I’m not able to feature their Filipino food in this article, I have not yet tried them. I missed the opportunity as I’m now back in Metro Manila. But I’ll be updating this post in the future as I do plan to go back to Baguio and will definitely retry Cafe By The Ruins.

When I come back, I will surely go for their Longanisa from their breakfast meals, which is a smoked Baguio-style longanisa. I also wont forget about their champorado served with daing na espada and their beef lumpia which are my favorite comfort foods since I was child.
